MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas — Local land developer Galen Dru Kahlenberg, through his charitable organization Humanity Squared and affiliated charitable efforts, is continuing a growing commitment to support children, families, schools and communities throughout Montgomery County and Galveston. As part of the organization's back-to-school outreach, Kahlenberg and community partners recently helped provide backpacks and school supplies to local students, with additional commitments being made to help meet school-supply needs as the academic year gets underway. The effort is intended to do more than simply provide backpacks.
Participating organizations and local businesses are working together to identify practical ways to support students and families throughout the year. Among those community partners is Kirk Murphy of Golden Corral, who has joined the effort to help provide meal gift coupons for selected students, adding another meaningful layer of support for children and families in the community. Love in Action, a local charitable organization serving Willis and surrounding communities, also participated in the backpack initiative.
The organization has established a strong community presence through programs focused on helping children and families who may need additional assistance. The recent giveaway brought charitable organizations, local businesses and school leadership together with a common purpose: making sure students begin the school year prepared and encouraged. Kahlenberg said the back-to-school program is only one part of a broader year-round commitment.
“Today we are giving back through backpacks and school supplies, but our commitment doesn't end when the school year begins,” Kahlenberg said. “We are already looking ahead to the holidays and opportunities to help children and families who may need a little extra support. ” Plans are already underway for the upcoming Christmas season, including the development of Christmas gift lists for some of the most vulnerable children living in local subdivisions and communities throughout Montgomery County.
The goal is to identify children and families with genuine needs and help provide Christmas gifts and other assistance during the holiday season. Kahlenberg and his affiliated charitable organizations, including Humanity Squared, Warriors Fund, and The Galen Foundation, support a variety of community projects and organizations throughout Montgomery County and Galveston, with an emphasis on children, families and locally focused assistance. For Kahlenberg, a local land developer with longstanding involvement in area communities, the charitable work is closely connected to the places where he lives, works and develops.
The recent backpack initiative also included participation from local school leadership, including Principal Susan Fossler and her team, who helped connect the charitable effort with students and the school community. Additional community partners and participating organizations will be recognized as the program continues. From backpacks and school supplies today to meals, Christmas gifts and future community programs, the organizations involved say the objective remains simple: local people and local organizations working together to take care of their neighbors.
