Houston restaurants in East Downtown say business has improved as World Cup continues
By Kyle McClenagan at Houston Public Media

The FIFA Fan Festival in East Downtown — where local residents and visitors can watch matches for free — had drawn more than 163,000 visitors as of Tuesday.
Why this matters in The Woodlands
The launch of an Ebola-monitoring dashboard by local health officials is a prudent step given the upcoming World Cup, which will draw international travelers to the Houston area, including The Woodlands . Although the risk of Ebola transmission is considered low, the presence of more than a dozen travelers being monitored in the area warrants vigilance. As a major hub with the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion and The Woodlands Mall, The Woodlands is likely to attract visitors from around the world, increasing the potential for exposure to infectious diseases. The Montgomery County health system, in conjunction with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and other local agencies, will play a critical role in responding to any potential outbreaks. Residents of The Woodlands can expect ongoing updates and guidance from these agencies as the situation evolves, particularly in light of the community's history of responding to Gulf hurricane and flooding risks.
